We're Hiring: Papilio home Sales & Merchandising Assistant

We're looking for someone to join our team when we reopen Papilio home in April. We would expect the job to start the week of 4th April with some training before starting properly as soon as we are allowed to reopen (hopefully 12th April).

What are we looking for?


Someone with …

  • a love of interiors, jewellery or children’s toys

  • experience in merchandising products and willing to learn our merchandising style

  • the ability to think creatively

  • previous retail experience (preferably at least 12 months)

  • the ability to build long-standing relationships with customers

  • the desire to learn more about our products, suppliers and us a business

  • a willingness to join in and try new things like Facebook lives

  • a passion for making all feel welcome and at home in the shop including those with disabilities and dementia, this is one of our key values and is very important

What does the job involve?

  • Working 2-3 days a week (9am-5.30pm) including alternate Saturdays (9.00am-5.30pm)

  • Holiday and sickness cover is also covered by staff so occasional extra days will be asked for

  • Working with the owners and other colleagues to ensure that the shop is run profitably and efficiently and that customers have the best experience possible

  • Pay is £8.91/hour



The Role

  • Providing excellent, active, customer service - listening to customers to help fulfil their needs and telling customers the stories behind products to encourage sales - we don’t do pushy sales

  • Assisting with merchandising the shop floor and windows (learning from the owner our style and with her in the merchandising)

  • Learning some basic Makaton signs to assist in communicating with our younger customers who use this language programme

  • Receiving and handling of cash and operating our EPOS system

  • Having responsibility for a ‘department’ of stock in order to contribute to the shops success including through merchandising, restocking, spotting sales trends and slow sellers and completing a short monthly report

  • Compliance with all current Health and Safety and Fire Regulations to ensure the health, safety and enjoyment of customers

  • Assisting in keeping the shop floor and first floor stock and staff rooms clean and well maintained

  • There may be the opportunity to become a key holder

  • Contributing ideas for evening events and other ways to increase sales

  • Other tasks associated with Papilio at Heritage as required
